On the April 7th, 2015 edition of KCSB’s “Roadtunes Sessions,” Jan Smith, AKA Cuyama Mama, the vocalist/guitarist/bassist of Cuyama Mama & The Hot Flashes and Farm Advisor for Quail Springs Permaculture, was interviewed by DJ Philobeto ahead of her band’s April 8th appearance at SOhO Restaurant & Music Club.

What would a bunch of farmers do when the bar 3 miles down the road from their non-profit permaculture farm, Quail Springs, needs a band for their BBQ? They pick a name, make a song list, scrub off most of the dirt, put on their aprons and suspenders, and play music for the people! Cuyama Mama & The Hot Flashes sets range from covers of musical heroes, Gillian Welch, Steve Earl, John Prine, The Beatles and more, to originals with an emphasis on story.
