Kate Morgan is a permaculture farmer and avid mycologist. She began pursuing her interest in environmental remediation with research on hydrocarbon degradation by marine microbial communities surrounding oil seeps and spills while completing her B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at UC Santa Barbara. During a semester abroad in Copenhagen, she first encountered permaculture by volunteering in urban gardens and at local foodsharing organizations. In 2018, she joined Quail Springs through our Farm and Community Immersion program.
Kate’s passions in biochemistry and permaculture intersect at mycology. At Quail Springs, she works to integrate fungi into the greenhouses and garden beds, currently running a small-scale production of oyster mushrooms.
