Steven was raised in the metro Boston area and the White Mountains of northern New Hampshire and has a profound love and respect for nature in all its incarnations. Steven believes in helping others and he believes in the power of healthy communities to change the world. He also believes that systems need tending and watchful eyes to remain healthy and vibrant.
Steven’s experience includes work in environmental education, personal/executive/leadership coaching, sustainable community development, project management, activism, grant writing, appropriate technologies, natural building and permaculture in areas local, regional, national and international in scope.
Steven attended the School for International Training in 1992 and his Master’s degree program focused on sustainable development, cross-cultural training. His introduction to permaculture and natural building began in 1995 in Mexico during a program collaboration between the Caballero family’s well know operation in Tlaxcala and the Cob Cottage Company. He continued his cob building training with the Cob Cottage Company and has assisted in teaching several courses. In 1998, Steven completed his first Permaculture Design Course with Jerome Osentowski at The Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute in 1998. He has continued to study permaculture and to occasionally design and teach.
Steven has worked with diverse entities such as the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development, Metro DC Environmental Network, US Agency for International Development, Grupo Ecologico Sierra Gorda (Mexico), Brigada Universitaria de Servicios Comunitarios (Mexico), AmeriCorps, Wellstart International, Center for Development of International Law, Boulder Cooperative Market (co-founder and board member), Aboca USA, Whole Foods Market, Boulder’s Best Organics, etc. These experiences have given him a great opportunity to engage with an extremely wide range of people, issues and perspectives.
Prior to arriving as Quail Springs, Steven served on the board of the Impact Hub Academy in Boulder and was a co-founding member of the Impact Hub Boulder, a co-working space and venue for entrepreneurs fostering positive local and global impact.
