Course Description

On your half-day visit to Quail Springs Permaculture Farm, you will learn about: growing food in the high desert; tending a variety of healthy food-giving animals; sustainable shelter; living regeneratively; and stewarding agricultural lands, watersheds, & wilderness.

The event will include a tour of our gardens, animal systems, natural buildings, crafts display, alternative technologies, and more. After the tour, participants will enjoy a delicious, farm-fresh lunch prepared in our earthen ovens, followed by a question & answer session with our farm managers.

Good walking shoes are recommended. Sorry, we cannot accommodate pets at this time. Please let us know in advance if you need to bring a service animal.

Registration Information


  • Tour Cost:
    • $50 – $75 per person (sliding scale)
    • Youth ages 13 – 18 years: $25
    • Children 12 and under free of charge
    • Cuyama Valley Residents: $35
  • Time: 9:30AM – 3:30PM
  • Cancellation Policy:
    • Before May 5, 2019: $10 cancellation fee.
    • On and after May 5, 2019: No refunds available.
    • In case of a valid personal medical or family emergency, we will consider, yet do not guarantee, requests for a transfer of fees (less administrative costs) to another course with Quail Springs.

Private Farm Tours
This is for individuals or self-organized groups looking for an exciting, informational and inspiring Farm Tour led by our farmers, Natalie and Jeff. Private Farm Tours last between 90 minutes and 2 hours (no lunch provided), with in-depth discussion about growing food in the high desert; tending a variety of healthy food-giving animals; sustainable & earthen shelter; living regeneratively; and stewarding agricultural lands, watersheds, & wilderness. There will be plenty of time to ask all your burning questions.
Private Farm Tours are $250 total for the tour. Larger groups are more economical. Size limits may apply.

Farm Immersion

Farm Immersion

Our Farm & Community Immersion Program offers a 6-month residency (with possibility of extension) at Quail Springs grounded in community living and applying permaculture techniques to support our farm and holistic food systems. This experience provides extensive practical opportunities to apply everything learned in a Permaculture Design Course (although a PDC is not required) through the day-to-day operations of a full-time functioning Permaculture farmstead, community, and education center.

Mushroom Cultivation Course

Fungi Farming

This course will introduce the art and science of mushroom cultivation by offering low-tech, home-scale methods for growing mushrooms for food, medicine and earth renewal. You will learn about setting up cultivation space at home, gathering materials and equipment, and gain experiential hands-on skills to make liquid cultures, petri cultures, grain spawn, sawdust kits, and more.
